I have had the pleasure of working Deborah, Kirsten and Kim for many years, all of who played a big part in launching my books, as well as arranging and hosting regular book reviews with a number of authors.

You are all very professional, knowledgeable and experienced in the world of books and understand the ethos of what goes into writing and launching a book. I am very grateful to you all for the support and enthusiasm you  gave me and the pleasure I got from attending and participating in your book review evenings. I am delighted to hear that you launched your own new venture and sincerely wish you every success and will watch to see your names appear in lights very soon!!

Over the past four years, we have built an impressive network of suppliers whose expertise we can call on to assist our clients.  A veritable “tribe” of professionals who can take a fledgling title and grow and nurture it into something worthy of standing amongst the greats in its chosen genre.

For 13 years Deborah ran a thriving first line IT help desk for bytes Technology Outsources.

Starting at Skoobs Theatre of Books as a bookseller, six months later she was promoted to
Mind & Mood/Events Co-ordinator.  In this challenging position, Deborah met many hundreds of local authors and soon recognized a huge gap in the market for self-publishing. In four and a half years she was involved in launching over 300 books, her youngest author being just 9 years of age!

Deborah takes a deep personal interest in every writer and reads approximately 300 books a year.  She is a self-proclaimed knowledge junkie and is affectionately known as the “Book Cover Dragon” and “Mamma Books”. She uses her extensive experience to make sure that every book is the best it can possibly be – to stand proudly in its chosen genre. She pushes writers to go that extra mile with their unique story, connect with their readers and maximise their chosen careers, on every level possible.

A founder member of IAN and honorary member of Siyafunda Donate-A-Book, she is our resident book launch expert. Deborah is a well-travelled lover of animals and a fabulous cook. She lives by her catchphrase, “My knowledge came from all the books I have read in my lifetime and for that I thank the author’s”.

Kirsten has a National Diploma in Public Relations from Wits Technikon (now University of Johannesburg) where she was awarded “Communicator of The Year”.  Thereafter she worked for three boutique advertising and public relations agencies before taking a sabbatical to have her children. During this time, she qualified as an image consultant, managed a flower shop, and dabbled in network marketing.

Kirsten began her book journey at Readers Warehouse in 2013 where she joined as a bookseller and ended by running the corporate sales division, which secured and facilitated book sales at large corporates and schools such as Absa, FNB, Telesure and Nedbank.

As store manager of Skoobs Theatre of Books for four years Kirsten has extensive experience of running an independent bookstore and venue.  This included buying, staffing, events, external communication (newsletter & social media) and customer service.

Kirsten is highly creative and enjoys conceptualizing promotions and events, displays and design.  She is also a qualified copywriter and social media marketer.

Career highlights include winning the 2018 James Patterson Display Competition through Penguin Random House (R16 000 cash prize),  interviewing international authors Leslie Pearce and Tony Park, appearing on ENCA Morning Live to talk about books, and personally organizing special events such as The Pangolin Working Group Charity Auction and The Bragging Writes High School Book Quiz.

Kim has a Higher Diploma in Microbiology and has worked as a quality control manager, personal assistant, and a school receptionist. She started going to book events as she wanted to meet authors, became a book blogger and has grown into a writer and publishing guru in her own right.

She started her own company “Tango With Text” (www.tangowithtext.com) in 2017 where she offers author coaching in various aspects of their author business, proof reading, and assists technophobic writers with all aspects of putting their books online.

Kim is a founder member of IAN and “The Schools Reading Road Show” which encourages children to read by taking authors and their books into schools and in doing so adding the element of face-to-face interaction with a ‘real-life’ author. The children become excited at the prospect of reading a story that the author in front of them has written.  Over the years, Kim has organised several large and small book events, helping authors to reach their market. Her latest venture in conjunction with other like-minded people, was the highly successful Bennies Book Fayre at St Benedicts School in Bedfordview on 14 March 2020.  A fantastic day of fun, revolving around reading and books, which featured 70 children’s and young adult authors.
